Care Tips
Sow seeds in moist, well-draining seed-starting mix. Keep in a warm, shaded spot with consistent moisture. Germination may take 14–30 days. Note that Hostas grown from seed may take several years to reach their full, impressive size.
For Outdoor Planting: Once established, transplant outdoors in spring or fall. Choose a location with partial to full shade. While 'Empress Wu' is tolerant of some morning sun, avoiding intense afternoon sun will help maintain the deep green color and prevent leaf scorching. Ensure the soil is rich in organic matter, consistently moist, and well-drained. Mulch well to retain soil moisture and help suppress weeds. Due to its large size, ensure it has ample space to grow into its mature dimensions. Protect young plants from slugs and snails
For Indoor Growing: While 'Empress Wu' is primarily an outdoor landscape plant due to its immense size, young seedlings can be grown indoors in a bright, indirect light location. However, for it to reach its full, spectacular potential, it will eventually need to be transplanted outdoors. Ensure good drainage and consistent moisture if growing in containers.
